A quick look at all four exams
Before going exam by exam, here is a side-by-side comparison. All four are accepted at Greater Noida Institute of Management (GNIM) for PGDM 2026-28.)
| Exam | Conducted by | How often | Difficulty | Accepted at GNIM |
| CAT | IIMs, rotational | Once a year, in November | Very high | Yes, scholarship eligible |
| MAT | AIMA | 4 times a year | Moderate | Yes, scholarship eligible |
| CMAT | NTA since 2019 | Once a year, Jan or Feb | Moderate | Yes, AICTE-approved route |
| ATMA | AIMS | 5 times a year | Moderate | Yes, most flexible option |
All four exams also make you eligible for merit scholarships at GNIM. A stronger score means more money off your fees. Details are in each section below.
Common Admission Test (CAT)
CAT is the toughest of the four. No point pretending otherwise.
The IIMs conduct it on a rotational basis every November. Around 2.3 lakh students register each year. Three sections test you: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability.
If you have been preparing seriously for six months or more, the CAT is worth attempting. Not just for IIMs. Many strong B-schools in Delhi NCR accept CAT scores, and a good percentile brings real fee savings at GNIM.
CAT preparation also gives you a head start during campus placements. Companies like KPMG, Deloitte, and Amazon recruit from GNIM. Their aptitude test rounds the same skills as the CAT.

Management Aptitude Test (MAT)
MAT is conducted by AIMA, the All-India Management Association. It runs four times a year: February, May, September, and December.
You can take it as a paper test, at a computer centre, or online from home. That flexibility makes it a practical choice for many students. Over 600 business schools across India accept MAT scores for PGDM.
The real advantage of MAT is the multiple attempts in one year. If your February score falls short, you can retake it in May. That second chance simply does not exist with CAT.
If you missed the CAT window, or if you are balancing exam prep with a job, MAT is the most practical path to a PGDM in Delhi NCR.

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)
CMAT was built specifically for admission to AICTE-affiliated management institutes. AICTE ran it until 2018. Since 2019, NTA has taken it over.
It is held once a year, usually in January or February. Around 70,000 candidates appear each year. The paper has 100 questions for 400 marks.
One section stands out. CMAT includes Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a separate area. The other three exams do not have this. It suits students considering GNIM's Business Analytics or Entrepreneurship tracks.
GNIM is approved by AICTE and the Ministry of Education, Government of India. CMAT scores directly satisfy the admission eligibility for AICTE colleges. The process is clean and straightforward.
No ambiguity. No workarounds.
If you are specifically targeting AICTE-approved PGDM colleges in Greater Noida and UP, the CMAT score for PGDM is your most direct route.
ATMA: the exam most students underestimate
ATMA is conducted by the Association of Indian Management Schools. It runs five times a year and is accepted by over 750 management institutes in India.
The paper has 180 multiple-choice questions across six sections. Duration is three hours. The difficulty is moderate, similar to MAT.
Five chances a year is the highest frequency of any exam on this list. You can take your first attempt early and retake if needed. You do not have to wait months for the next window.
It does not carry the same word of mouth as CAT. But the admission outcome can be identical at colleges like GNIM.
Same destination. Less competition.
If you are a working student or are based in a smaller city in UP, ATMA is the most flexible path to a PGDM in Greater Noida.

So, which one should you pick?
Here is a plain answer.
If you have been preparing for months and want to apply to the top PGDM colleges in Delhi NCR, take the CAT. If you missed CAT or want more than one attempt in a year, take MAT or ATMA. If you are targeting AICTE-approved colleges in Greater Noida, like GNIM, any of the four will work.
You do not have to pick just one. Many students appear for the CAT in November and the MAT in December as a backup. That is a sensible plan.
Whichever exam you take, your score matters at GNIM. A stronger score means more scholarship money off your fees.
